Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut – Kilimanjaro Rainforest Day Hike

Your Mount Kilimanjaro day hike begins with an early morning transfer from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi to Marangu Gate, the official starting point of the Marangu Route. After completing the required Kilimanjaro National Park registration and meeting your professional mountain guide, you begin hiking through the lush montane rainforest on the southeastern slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trail climbs gradually beneath tall trees and dense forest vegetation. Your guide sets a comfortable pace and allows regular breaks for hydration, rest and photography while sharing information about the mountain environment and the Marangu Route. As you gain elevation, the rainforest gradually changes and the trail becomes quieter. Depending on conditions, you may encounter some of the birdlife and smaller wildlife associated with Kilimanjaro's forest zone. After approximately 8 kilometres, you reach Mandara Hut at around 2,700 metres above sea level. This is the turnaround point for the day hike and provides an opportunity to rest, enjoy your picnic lunch and experience the atmosphere of Kilimanjaro's mountain huts. After your break, you begin the descent along the same trail towards Marangu Gate. The return hike through the rainforest offers a different perspective of the landscape as you gradually lose elevation. At Marangu Gate, you complete the required park exit procedures before meeting your vehicle for the return journey to Arusha or Moshi. This one-day Marangu Route experience offers an accessible introduction to Mount Kilimanjaro, combining rainforest scenery, mountain trails and a genuine guided hiking experience without requiring an overnight climb.

Applicable government taxes and VAT associated with the booked Kilimanjaro trekking services are included in the package price.
Experienced Mountain Porters
Mountain porters carry designated group equipment, food and camping supplies, allowing climbers to focus on hiking with a manageable personal daypack.
Assistant Mountain Guides
Additional qualified mountain guides are provided according to group size and operational requirements to support route management and guest safety.
Emergency Oxygen
Emergency supplemental oxygen is carried by the mountain team as part of the trek's altitude-safety equipment.
Mountain First-Aid Kit
A comprehensive first-aid kit is carried by the mountain team to provide initial assistance for minor injuries and common trekking needs.
Pre-Trek Briefing
Before the climb, guests receive a briefing covering the route, daily hiking expectations, mountain safety, equipment and preparation for high-altitude trekking.

Personal expenses
Souvenirs, personal shopping and other individual spending money aren't included.
Government tax/fee increases
If the Tanzanian government raises taxes or park fees after booking, that increase is passed on rather than absorbed into your quoted price.
Alcoholic beverages
Soft drinks and bottled water are included; alcoholic beverages are available at extra cost where offered.
International flights
Flights to and from Tanzania are not included — we can recommend routes and airlines on request.
Tanzania visa
Most nationalities need a Tanzania visa, available on arrival or online in advance — the fee is not included in the trip price.
Tips & gratuities
Tipping your driver-guide and camp staff is customary but discretionary, and not included in the trip price.
Travel insurance
