Safari Questions Answered

The ideal time is during the dry season from June to October, when animals congregate around water sources and shorter grass makes wildlife easier to spot. However, Tanzania offers excellent safari experiences year-round. The short rains in November-December are also great for visiting, with brief afternoon showers and fewer crowds.

Yes, most visitors require a visa. US citizens pay $100 for a multiple-entry visa, while other nationalities typically pay $50 for single-entry. You can obtain a visa on arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport or apply online in advance through the eVisa system—we recommend applying beforehand to avoid airport delays.

Yellow Fever vaccination is required if you’re arriving from a country with ongoing transmission or have transited through such a country’s airport for over 12 hours. Malaria prevention medication is highly recommended for safari regions. Consult your doctor about Hepatitis A & B and Typhoid vaccines at least 6-8 weeks before departure.

Pack lightweight, neutral-colored clothing in layers with long sleeves and pants. Bring sturdy hiking boots, comfortable shoes, a hat, sunglasses, and high SPF sunscreen. Essential items include a camera with extra batteries, binoculars, swimwear, insect repellent, medications, and a light jacket for cool mornings. Most accommodations have laundry services, so pack light.

The official currency is the Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). US Dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas, but use Tanzanian Shillings for local transactions and tips. ATMs are available in major towns like Arusha. Notify your bank of your travel dates to avoid card blocks. Carry a mix of cash and cards for flexibility.
